Opera, ïðåæäå âñåãî, ÿâëÿåòñÿ êëèåíòîì World Wide Web, òî åñòü ïðîãðàììîé äëÿ èçâëå÷åíèÿ èíôîðìàöèè èç WWW â âèäå äîêóìåíòîâ, ñîçäàííûõ ñ ïîìîùüþ HyperText Markup Language (ÿçûêà ðàçìåòêè ãèïåðòåêñòà HTML). Íèçêèå òðåáîâàíèÿ ê ðåñóðñàì ñèñòåìû. Opera áóäåò ðàáîòàòü äàæå íà 386 êîìïüþòåðå ñ 6 Ìá îïåðàòèâíîé ïàìÿòè. MDI èíòåðôåéñ. Âû ìîæåòå áåç îñîáûõ çàòðàò ïàìÿòè îòêðûâàòü ëþáîå êîëè÷åñòâî îêîí âíóòðè îäíîãî ðàáî÷åãî îêíà, âûáðàâ ïðè ýòîì òàáëè÷íûé èëè êàñêàäíûé ðåæèì. Îïåðà ïîääåðæèâàåò 128 áèòíîå øèôðîâàíèå ïî ñòàíäàðòàì SSL2/SSL3, à òàêæå TLS 1.0.Ïåðåêëþ÷åíèå îòîáðàæåíèÿ êàðòèíîê â õîäå ðàáîòû è äëÿ êàæäîãî îêíà ïî îòäåëüíîñòè. Ïåðåêëþ÷åíèå îòîáðàæåíèÿ äîêóìåíòà ìåæäó íàñòîéêàìè äîêóìåíòà è íàñòðîéêàìè ïîëüçîâàòåëÿ (öâåò ôîíà, öâåò è øðèôò òåêñòà è ññûëîê). Èçìåíåíèå ìàñøòàáà äîêóìåíòà îò 20% è äî 1000%. Íåñìîòðÿ íà ñâîé ìàëåíüêèé ðàçìåð, Îïåðà ïîääåðæèâàåò è CSS, è Java, òàêæå îíà ïîääåðæèâàåò plugin-û îò Netscape, êîòîðûå ìîæíî ñêà÷àòü ñ åå ôèðìåííîãî ñàéòà. Ïîääåðæèâàåò òàêèå ïðîòîêîëû ïåðåäà÷è äàííûõ, êàê FTP, Gopher è WAIS.

Opera extensions allow you to easily equip your Opera browser with extra features. You can get them from our extensions catalog at https://addons.labs.opera.com/
With the Opera 11 alpha, you can personalize your browser with all your pet features and functionality. From now on, it is you who defines the best experience with the Opera browser.
Our focus when building an extension mechanism has been to enable closer integration with web pages and web applications, and we look forward to see what the creative developer community will come up with.
Opera 11 alpha marks the beginning of the extensions mechanism in Opera. Before Opera 11 goes final we plan to include auto update for the extensions and a few other nice features to expand the functionality exposed to developers.
